Alex has been flying paragliders since 1997 and he says, "It changed my life" He is current British Champion and was previously the UK national world record holder. He now describes himself as "...a reasonably competent UK cross county pilot".

In 2013, with an early start and almost 10 hours in the air he completed a flight of 369km in Brazil; the photo shows him passing the 300km point. He had launched from Quixada just after 0800hrs and kept going more or less until sunset, topping out at just over 3000m, and flying almost in a straight line.

Alex has had some magical moments in and above cloud, outrunning gust fronts, flying with rain streaming down his lines and has had to throw his reserve parachute while competing in Portugal. He says he 'wants to share the addiction' and will be talking about both Cross Country flying and Competition flying. He'll be trying to explain the lure of free flight by sharing technical details, some interesting observations and talking through some of his more memorable flights - some of which lasted less than 30 minutes and some over 8 hours.

He hopes that those non-pilots in the audience leave with a better understanding of the sport and, hopefully, enough interest to give it a go.
