wilderness LECTURES

Terms & Conditions

The information published on this site is offered in good faith and is correct at the time of publishing. Wilderness Lectures is governed by English law.

Descriptions of lecture contents and speaker's biographical information are provided by each speaker. Wilderness Lectures is unable to offer any guarantee of the accuracy of this information.

The Wilderness Lectures' website offers the definitive programme and may vary from that previously advertised..

Due to circumstances beyond our control it may be necessary to change the programme from that previously advertised, at short notice.

* In such an event, we will endeavour to replace the speaker with another who offers a similar interest.

* Where this is not satisfactory to a member of the audience, we will refund entry fees at the advertised advance rate on production of the relevant ticket(s) at the door, prior to the start of the lecture.

* Should it be necessary to cancel a lecture entirely then we will refund entry fees at the advertised advance rate, less an administrative charge of £1.20 (to cover 50p postage and the 70p bank charge for processing a cheque) or £0.70p if we are provided with a stamped addressed envelope, on production of the relevant ticket(s) either at the door or submitted to us by post.

We regret that we will not be able to refund or exchange tickets in the event that inclement weather makes it difficult or impossible for a ticket holder to attend an event.

Wilderness Lectures cannot be held responsible for the loss of, or damage to, any personal property or effects.

Wilderness Lectures reserves the right to refuse entry.

Lectures normally start at 19.30 hrs. Individuals not taking their seats by 19.25 hrs may find that their seats have been reallocated and that no seat is available. In such circumstances Wilderness Lectures may, at the organisers' discretion, refund the ticket price at the advanced ticket rate.

Each ticket represents one entry to our annual prize draw, providing that the details on the reverse of the ticket are completed legibly, in full. The draw is made at the last lecture. We will make our best attempt to contact any winner who is not present on the night. If we are unable to do so, after making reasonable efforts, then we reserve the right to dispose of the prize at our discretion.

Season tickets are priced to provide a discount that is additional to our advance purchase discount. Please note that we do NOT provide refunds on season tickets if you are unable to attend an individual lecture.

We use the information provided on tickets to compile our mailing list.If you are not already on our mailing list, we ask you to positively opt-in by ticking the appropriate box on the reverse of the ticket. We will then add you to our mailing list.

Names and addresses on the mailing list will be used by Wilderness Lectures and, possibly, by our sponsors. If you do not wish to receive information from our sponsors, please complete the relevant tick-box on each and every ticket submitted. Our sponsors are specifically acknowledged on our 'Links' page. We will not release contact information to other organisations.

We will keep your details on the mailing list unless you instruct us to remove them by annotating a ticket accordingly or by notifying us by email or in writing.

To save cost and paper, we endeavour only to send one mailing to each household.

We try to keep our mailing list up to date. Please assist us by advising us of any address change, using the reverse of the ticket.

Providing us with your email address on the ticket indicates that you have opted-in to receive email correspondence from us or our sponsors.

The sponsors with which we will share data are: Mountain Kingdoms Ltd, Snow and Rock Ltd, Stanfords Ltd.

The Stanford's online ticket purchase facility is operated independently of Wilderness Lectures and we are unable to enter into any correspondence regarding the operation or security of this site. Any complaints or queries about the operation of this facility should be addressed to the Manager at Stanfords at the address stated on our ticket purchase page.

Wilderness Lectures is registered under the terms of the Data Protection Act 1999. Reg. No. PZ8134478

We are unable to accept payment at the door by any form of credit or debit card.

We reserve the right to decline cheques made payable for sums of less than £10.

We will charge the full price for tickets held on the door, unless payment has been received in advance.

We may sell tickets through third parties. Such organisations are permitted only to sell tickets at the advertised prices. They may or may not take payment by credit or debit card at their discretion.

Tickets may be ordered by post or online and may then be sent out to the purchaser (if a suitable stamped addressed envelope is provided) or held on the door for collection. If an envelope is provided with inadequate stamps, the tickets will be held on the door. If sent out by post, neither Wilderness Lectures nor our agents are able to accept responsibility if they fail to arrive at their destination in time.

We operate under the health and safety regulations of the owners of our venues. Please observe onsite parking restrictions. Our venue details page will offer advice on parking arrangements.

When entering the venue, please note the positions of the emergency exits.

Smoking is not permitted in the theatres, neither is the consumption of food or drink.

Please sit only in the seats provided. Do not obstruct walkways with bags or other objects.

Purchase of a ticket represents acceptance of these terms and conditions.

The terms and conditions of this Award are also detailed in the application guidelines published on this website.

The individual signing the application will be legally responsible for meeting our terms and conditions.

In return for the Award, the successful applicant must agree to deliver a lecture in Bristol, as part of the Wilderness Lectures Series at a time to be agreed within the timeframe set out on the application form.

This lecture will be given with slides and or video and will last between 75 and 90 minutes, plus questions and answers.

It is a condition of the Award that our grant be acknowledged on any expedition website and in any reports that are produced as a result of the trip

The decision of the Wilderness Lectures Partners regarding any application is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Submission of an entry represents acceptance of our Award terms and conditions.

We are always interested in approaches from interesting speakers. If you think you have something to offer us, please contact steve.berry@wildernesslectures.com

If we want you to appear in our series, we will contact you and discuss possible subjects, dates and fees/expenses. We will agree these with you.

We will then write to you, confirming the arrangements we have made and our agreement for fees/expenses.

We will ask you to let us know your requirements for audio-visual equipment and we will provide the necessary equipment on the night. We will arrange accommodation for you overnight if this is necessary.

We will ask you to provide a short biography for inclusion in both our brochure and on our website, together with a short summary of your intended lecture. Please explore our site to see examples so that you know what is appropriate. We will also ask you to provide one portrait photograph and one other photograph of yourself, preferably 'in action'. Digital images are preferred although we are able to scan photographs or slides. If you send the latter, please ensure that they are suitably packaged and insured - we are not able to accept responsibility for material that is posted to us although we will return them to you by Post Office Special Delivery if you ask us to do so.

Shortly before the event, we will contact you as a courtesy, to ensure that you are happy with the arrangements and that we have correctly understood your equipment and accommodation requirements.

We understand that, very occasionally, things go wrong and speakers are unable to attend. In the event that you are due to appear in our series and are unable to do so we must ask you to let us know as soon as possible. Given sufficient notice, we are normally able to provide our audience with an alternative speaker.

However, if you cancel with minimal notice (48 hours or less) or fail to attend the scheduled event, we reserve the right to ask you for compensation to cover our losses. This claim will comprise our fixed costs (venue hire, a proportion of marketing overhead etc) and an element for loss of profit. The latter will be based on the value of tickets sold, less our fixed costs and agreed speaker fees. In the event that we are unable to reach an amicable agreement for compensation, we reserve the right to take legal action.

Any arrangement with you is made on the condition that you do not accept any other invitations to speak within a 20 mile radius of the venue in advance of the date we agree with you. We insist on this to ensure that our potential audience is not reduced in order to protect the costs we will have invested in staging the event for you. Should you breach this condition we reserve the right to reduce the fee that we had previously agreed with you by 50%.

Acceptance of a speaker booking represents acceptance of these terms and conditions.
